This is a tour of the most representative UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Romania and a cultural journey across centuries of human creation.

This tour is designed for travelers who enjoy cultural incursions and discoveries, exploring in depth some of the most spectacular pieces of heritage from Romania.

The itinerary of Romania UNESCO World Heritage tour crosses the country, from south to north, offering you an unparalleled view of memorable monuments and scenery, with faith and religion as the main ingredients of cultural creation behind centuries-old monuments.

The tour starts in Bucharest, Romania's capital, going further north to the splendid Monastery of Horezu before taking us to Transylvania where we'll spend a few days. 

After visiting the fortified churches and the medieval city of Sighisoara, we'll drive to Bucovina, the land of painted churches built by medieval princes to celebrate their victories against the Ottoman Empire.

A few days later we'll reach Maramures where wooden churches done by local artisans hundreds of years ago survive until today. 

A complex cultural tour, mixing historical events and unique local heritage, this Romania UNESCO World Heritage tour will offer you the complete cultural experience.

Day 1: Arrival to Bucharest

Transfer to your hotel.

Day 2: Horezu Monastery

Morning drive to Horezu, a small city where you'll see the first UNESCO Heritage Site of the tour, the 17th-century Monastery of Horezu. This is one of the most important monuments of medieval architecture in Romania and is a masterpiece of the architectural style ‘Brancovenesc’.

Horezu is also famous for the traditional pottery hand-made here with hundreds of years old techniques. The pottery of Horezu has been included on UNESCO’s List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Day 3: Transylvania

Drive on the scenic Rucar-Bran mountain road towards Transylvania, a legendary region where multicultural heritage and tumultuous history go hand in hand. We stop in one of its most beautiful cities, Brasov, to spend the night.

We'll stop along the way to visit Curtea de Arges Monastery, one of the most beautiful and original Orthodox monuments in Romania.

Day 4: In the land of fortified churches

Morning walking tour in the historical center of Brasov, a beautiful city of medieval origins, founded some 800 years ago by the Saxon colonists.

In the afternoon, we visit two of the most impressive medieval monuments close to Brasov, the fortified church of Prejmer, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and the fortified church of Harman. Both constructions belong to the medieval centuries when local churches were fortified with solid walls to protect locals from enemy invasions.

Day 5: In the land of fortified churches

We drive early morning to Viscri, the village Prince Charles loves so much that he bought two traditional houses here. The village conserves a memorable fortified church, also part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

We spend the entire day in this small village, founded hundreds of years ago by the Saxon colonists. We'll visit local artisans and discover local life. You can walk around the village and the pasture or simply relax watching the cows return in the evening to their homes.

Day 6: Sighisoara

We leave early morning for Sighisoara, stopping on our way in Saschiz to visit the impressive Evangelical fortified church dating from the 15th century, included also on the UNESCO List.

We spend the first part of the day in Sighisoara, one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. One of the seven citadels settled by the Saxons in the 12th century, Sighisoara is today one of the most beautiful medieval cities in Europe.

Afternoon visit to the nearby Biertan, the largest fortified church from Transylvania and also a monument on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Day 7: To the land of painted churches

Drive to Bucovina, a region of green rolling hills, religious monuments and mouth-watering food. The drive is long, but panoramic and in the second part of the day, we reach our next point of the itinerary, the small village of Voronet.

We visit the Sistine Chapel of the East, the painted church that was included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites for its medieval exterior frescoes painted with a shade of blue impossible to replicate in the modern world.

Day 8: In the land of painted churches

Another beautiful day of wondering through Bucovina’s small and traditional villages in our quest to explore three medieval painted churches included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Humor, Moldovita and Sucevita.

True masterpieces of Byzantine art, these painted churches where centuries ago a symbol of locals’ Orthodox commitment, but also an attempt to spread the stories of the Bible to the people.

Day 9: To the land of wooden churches

We drive to the north of the country, in a region of great ethnographic importance: Maramures.

Secluded for centuries by its deep forests and surrounding mountains, Maramures is a historical region like no other in Romania. Its locals made from carving wood an authentic art, their sculptures becoming the symbol of Maramures.

Day 10: In the land of wooden churches

Visits to the wooden churches built hundreds of years ago by local artisans in a particular architectural style also known as the ‘Gothic style of Maramures’. We'll visit the churches from Desesti, Budesti and Barsana.

These UNESCO World Heritage Sites have in common tall roofs and tall steeples and a profound understanding of building wooden churches so they would last for centuries.

Day 11: One more day in Maramures

We spend one more day in scenic Maramures to relax.

If you feel in the mood to explore even more, we suggest a visit to the Memorial of Victims of Communism, plus the world famous the Merry Cemetery from Sapanta.

Day 12: Cluj-Napoca

We drive to Cluj-Napoca, a major historical city from the heart of Transylvania.

You have the entire afternoon to yourselves in maybe the most vibrant city in Romania.

Transfer to Avram Iancu International Airport from Cluj-Napoca.

Please take your time to read and understand the booking conditions presented below before initiating the booking process. These terms and conditions apply to any travel products and/or services you have booked with or purchased with Us and guide the contractual relationship between You, the Clients, and Us, the tour operator Uncover Romania Tours. The tour operator is managed by SC Uncover the World SRL, registered at the National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing with number 36310.

All travel products and/or services presented on or presented by our agents via email, in case of our tailor-made travel products and/or services, are designed and sold by Uncover Romania Tours, company registered by the National Tourism Authority of Romania with the license number 7244 from 09/10/2014.

Uncover Romania Tours reserves the right to decline any booking, in their sole discretion.

1. Contract

All bookings are made by You, the Clients, with Us, Uncover Romania Tours. By booking one of our travel products or services you acknowledge that:

a) You are over 18 years old;

b) You have read and understood these terms and conditions and You express your acceptance;

c) You express your acceptance with these terms and conditions on behalf of all clients named in the booking in case you include more clients besides yourself in the booking;

d) You are authorized by the other clients named in the booking to represent them;

e) You will provide full and accurate information needed for the booking both for You and the other clients named in the booking;

Once You have initiated the booking process You will receive the deposit invoice and the contract that will become valid once we receive the deposit.

2. Personal information

In order for Us to confirm your travel arrangements You must provide the following details: full name as in the passport, date of birth, nationality, passport number, passport expiry date, contact address, email and phone number. Your booking cannot be confirmed without these details needed for contractual purposes. By booking one of our tours You agree to provide Us this personal information. We will not disclose under any circumstances your personal information to third parties except when asked by state authorities. We will only use the information you provide for contractual purposes.

3. Payments

3.1. Deposit
A booking is confirmed once We have received a deposit from You. The value of the deposit (30% to 50%) depends on the total cost of the booking, the size of the group and the time left until the beginning of the tour. If a tour is booked less than 30 days before the date of the tour, the payment will be done in full.

3.2. Final payment
Uncover Romania Tours will send the Clients at least 30 days before the departure date an invoice for the amount constituting the final payment for the travel products or/and services booked. In case the full payment is not received 5 days at the latest before the departure date, Uncover Romania Tours may change the rate payable for the travel product and/or services booked, or may treat the booking as canceled and shall retain the deposit paid on booking as a cancellation fee.

3.3. Payment methods
You can pay your booking either by credit card, via PayPal or through bank transfer to one of our accounts, opened on the name SC Uncover the World SRL at Banca Transilvania.




In the case of city tours and one day tours booked only a few days in advance, you can also pay in cash on the day of the tour, in RON, based on the EUR-RON currency conversion cost announced in the previous day by the National Bank of Romania ( 

3.3. Commission fees
3.3.1. The commissions associated with the above payment methods, except cash and credit card payments, are not included in the price of the tours listed on The Client is responsible for paying the commission fees associated with the preferred payment method (4.5% fee for PayPal, variable fees for bank transfers).

3.3.2. Except for cash payments in RON, a 1% currency conversion fee will be added to the final price of each tour booked by the Client.

4. Refunds and cancellations

4.1. If the Clients decide to cancel the tour with a prior notice of at least 30 days, they will be refunded the deposit, minus the transfer fees and the costs that could not be recovered from third parties, for instance, accommodation and other local services already booked. The Clients will not be reimbursed if they cancel the tour less than 30 days before its start except in cases of major force.

4.2. We may cancel a trip at any time prior to departure if, due to terrorism, natural disasters, political instability or other unplanned events that make it not viable for Us to operate the planned tour. In this case, You can transfer the amount paid to an alternate departure date or alternatively receive a full refund, minus the fees already charged by third parties operator fees that cannot be recovered. We are not responsible for any expenses You may have done in regards to the booking including but not limited to visas, vaccinations, travel insurance or non-refundable flights.

4.3. In the case of unforeseen events, except those mentioned at point 4.2, that could determine Us to cancel the tour before its start, the Clients will be fully reimbursed.

5. Price

At any time before a booking is confirmed, Uncover Romania Tours reserves the right to increase or decrease the prices of any of its travel products or/and services. The price of the tour can be modified by Us after signing the contract only in the case of important changes like alterations in the cost of transportation caused by an increase the fuel price, significant changes in the exchange rate of the currency in which the tour is paid or unforeseen increases in local taxes at the destination. The price cannot increase by more than 10% and cannot be modified under any circumstances in the 30 days before the start of the tour.

5.1. Standard Tours Price
The standard tours are the ones presented on The final price is the one mentioned on the website. The price includes the costs of accommodation and everyday breakfasts, tour leader services, transportation, including gas and driver, but also planning costs. The price does not include plane tickets, travel insurance, visa costs if applicable, meals except breakfast, entry fees, specialized local guides if necessary.

6. Rights and Obligations of the Clients

6.1. The Clients can cancel the contract partly or entirely at any time. If the reason for canceling is attributable to them, they have the obligation to compensate Us for the prejudice caused if the cancellation takes places less than 30 days before the start of the tour. The values of the compensation cannot be more than the total price of the tour.

6.2. The Clients are the only responsible parties in case they do not follow the program of the tour or lose their official ID documents. They are responsible for securing travel and health insurance as well as paying any taxes or fees that may apply to their time in Romania.

6.3. The Clients should notify Us in writing if the present contract was not fulfilled properly maximum 5 days after the end of the tour. We have maximum 30 days to respond, mentioning the compensations that apply and identifying the guilty parties.

6.4. The Clients acknowledge all tours involve a certain amount of personal risk and that it is also their responsibility to acquaint themselves with all relevant travel information and the nature of their itinerary.

7. Rights and Obligations for Uncover Romania Tours

7.1. If during or before the tour, Uncover Romania Tours acknowledges it is not possible to completely respect the travel itinerary, the tour operator must inform the Clients and offer them alternatives or financial compensations if any fees already paid by them were part of the tour not offered.

7.2. Uncover Romania Tours is obliged to inform the Clients as soon as reasonably possible if there is a major change in the tour itinerary. The definition of a major change is deemed to be a change affecting at least one day in five of the itinerary. When a major change is made, the Clients may choose between accepting the change, obtaining a refund of money paid on the land portion of the trip only or accepting an alternative tour offered.

7.3. Uncover Romania Tours reserves the right to change an itinerary after departure due to local circumstances or events outside of our control. We are not responsible for any incidental expenses that may be incurred as a result of the change of the itinerary.

7.4. Uncover Romania Tours is not responsible for any damages, expenses, losses, or claims which are attributable to the fault of any Client, the unforeseeable or unavoidable act or omission of a third party unconnected with the provision of any travel products and/or services or a force major event.

8. Age and health

Travelers under the age of 18 years old must be accompanied by a legal guardian or an escort above 18 years old named by the legal guardian. One legal guardian or escort cannot be responsible for more than two minor travelers. In the case of more challenging adventure tours, You will need to specify whether You suffer from a medical condition which may affect your ability to complete the travel arrangements.

9. Travel documents

You must have a valid passport and have obtained the visa by yourself. Citizens of the European Union, European Economic Area or the United States of America do not need a visa to stay in Romania for a period of maximum 90 days. Citizens with simple passports from other 58 countries are exempted from the Romanian visa requirement. Check the 58 countries here

10. Travel insurance

The travel insurance is compulsory for all our Clients and should be taken out before the departure date. Your travel insurance must provide cover against personal accident, death, medical expenses and emergency repatriation with a recommended minimum coverage of US$200,000 for each of the categories of cover. We also recommend it covers cancellation, curtailment, personal liability and loss of luggage and personal effects. The travel insurance is not included in the price of our travel products and/or services. You must provide proof of your travel insurance on the first day of your trip or you will not be able to join the trip without it.

11. Validity

The prices advertised on are based on costs in effect at the time of posting to the website. Uncover Romania reserves the right to alter prices of any travel product and/or services at any time prior to receipt of the first installment. Changes, revisions, or other amendments may be made to the offers from before a booking is confirmed, and such changes, revisions or amendments shall be incorporated herein as of the date of such amendment

12. Flexibility

The Clients acknowledge that the type of travel products and/or services booked requires considerable flexibility and acknowledges that they will permit reasonable alterations to their booking. The Client acknowledge that the routes, itineraries, types of transportation or schedules may be modified without prior notice due to various circumstances or events, such as sickness or mechanical breakdown, extreme nature phenomena in the location where the product and/or service will be operated, flight cancellations, strikes and other unpredictable or unforeseeable circumstances which are beyond the control of Uncover Romania.

If We make a major change We will inform you as soon as reasonably possible if there is time before departure. The definition of a major change is deemed to be a change affecting at least one day in five of the itinerary. When a major change is made you may choose between accepting the change, obtaining a refund of money paid on the land portion of the trip only or accepting an alternative tour offered.

We reserve the right to change an itinerary after departure due to local circumstances or events outside of our control.  In such emergency circumstances, the additional cost of any necessary itinerary alterations will be covered by You. Please note we are not responsible for any incidental expenses that may be incurred as a result of the change of itineraries such as visas, vaccinations or non-refundable flights.

13. Authority on tour

All our tours except the self-guided ones are run by a tour leader representing Uncover Romania Tours. The decisions of the tour leader are final on all aspects likely to affect the safety or well-being of any person participating in the tour. If the Clients fail to comply with a decision made by a group leader or affect the well-being or mobility of the group, the tour leader may ask the Clients to leave the trip immediately, with no right of refund. The Clients must at all times comply with the laws, customs, foreign exchange and drug regulations of all countries visited, and also agree to travel in accordance with responsible tourism guidelines.

14. Acceptance of risk

While we design only tours with a high level of safety, the Client acknowledges all tours involve a certain amount of personal risk and that it is also his or her responsibility to acquaint yourself with all possible relevant travel information and the nature of his or her itinerary.

15. Liability

Uncover Romania Tours is not responsible for any damages, expenses, losses, or claims which are attributable to the fault of any Client, the unforeseeable or unavoidable act or omission of a third party unconnected with the provision of any travel products and/or services or a force major event.

Uncover Romania Tours is liable to the Clients for any damage caused to them by the failure to perform or the improper performance of the contract unless the failure or the improper performance is due to or arises from factors attributable to the consumer or to any third party unconnected with the provision of the services contracted for, are unforeseeable or unavoidable; nor shall Uncover Romania Tours be liable for any failure to perform or improper performance of the contract due to unusual and unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control , the consequences of which could not have been avoided even if all due care had been exercised; or an event which Uncover Romania Tours, even with all due care, could not foresee or forestall.

If any damage arising from the non-performance or improper performance of the services involved in the booked tour, the Clients agree that any compensation payable shall be limited in accordance with the Romanian Law that governs such services. In the case of damage other than personal injury resulting from the non-performance or improper performance of the services involved in the booked tour, the amount payable to the Clients shall be limited to a maximum of the price which the Clients paid for the booked tour, not including insurance premiums and administration charges.

16. Financial protection

We will provide security for the money You paid for the travel products and/or services booked from us and for your repatriation in the event of our insolvency, based on our OMNIASIG Insurance Policy number 49299.

17. Photos and marketing

You agree to let Us use images of yourself taken during the trip for advertising and promotional purposes in any medium we choose as long as these images do not offend your dignity. You grant us a perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide, irrevocable license to use such images for publicity and promotional purposes. You are entitled to deny the use of these images for this purpose based on the stipulations of the Romanian Law 677/2001.

18. Claims and complaints

If the Clients have a complaint about the tour he or she should inform the tour leader in order that he or she can attempt to rectify the matter. If satisfaction is not reached through these means then any further complaint should be sent in writing to Us within 5 days of the end of the tour.

19. Governing law

The laws of Romania govern these Booking Conditions to the fullest extent allowable. Any disputes in connection with a trip or these Booking Conditions must be initiated in the courts of Romania.

20. Updating of terms and conditions

Uncover Romania Tours reserves the right to update and/or alter these terms and conditions at any time, and it is the Clients' responsibility to be familiar with them. The latest terms and conditions can always be found on and will supersede any previous versions.


The price includes tour guide services, accommodation plus breakfast every day, transportation including driver, car and gas costs, planning costs.

The price does not include plane tickets, travel insurance, visa costs if applicable, entrance fees, meals except breakfast, activities booked locally by the clients themselves.

The price below is per person and can vary according to the timing of your booking. The price is based on two persons sharing a double room.
