Morning walking tour in the Old City Center of Brasov, a key commercial city in the medieval time and one of the seven citadels settled by the Saxons in the 12th century. We continue our tour with a visit to the first UNESCO World Heritage Site of the day: the fortified church of Prejmer, the strongest peasant fortification from South-Eastern Europe.
Built in the 13th century and strengthened on the course of the following centuries, this fortified church has 12 meters tall enclosing walls with loopholes and machicolations, almost 300 rooms incorporated in the inner part of the walls and one of the most valuable and oldest Gothic altars in Romania. The fortified church of Prejmer went through 50 sieges, but was conquered only once, in 1611.
In the second part of the day, we travel to Viscri, stopping on the way to visit another iconic medieval monument, the fortress of Rupea, one of the largest in Transylvania.

Walking tour of Sighisoara in the first part of the day. Attested at the end of the 13th century under the German name Schespurch, Sighisoara rapidly developed into a powerful economic and commercial center due to its many craftsmen and tradesmen that fortified the settlement with 14 towers and five artillery bastions in the coming centuries against Ottoman invasions.
Due to its geographical position, Sighisoara was for many centuries an important commercial and strategic point of Central Europe. It's also one of the seven fortified citadels the Saxons built after their settlement in the region starting with the 12th century.
Sighisoara is also the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler, the medieval prince that later inspired the myth of Dracula.
Afternoon drive to nearby Biertan to visit one of the most impressive fortified churches part of the UNESCO Heritage Sites. Large and powerful, this 15th century Gothic monument has an unique door with a complex locking system, a church organ with almost 1,300 pipes and, last but not least, a marital room where back in the day couples were locked until solving their problems.

You can either enjoy exploring the citadel or take the day to relax.
